Federigo Tozzi (Siena 1883-Rome 1920). He was influenced by D’Annunzio’s literature and Russian literature, especially Dostoevsky’s novels. Borghese points out that Tozzi is considered one of the early founders of Italian literature and that his literature has common characteristics with the Realism movement at the end of the nineteenth century, such as the interest in the social and economic conditions of rural life, Il Podere, and the petty bourgeoisie, Tre Croci and the interest in the environment and secondary characters and some elements of the realistic style, such as the scene, the art of dialogue and the vernacular language. The novel Bestie is regarded as a summary of the aforementioned elements in addition to the merging of the condition of the marginalized human being and the animal where the writer concludes that the two beings carry the same features and suffer from the same pressure and torment.
