The present work entitled "The Ennoblement of Man as an Incarnation of Alchemy in Hans Dominik's Novel Der Brand der Cheopspyramide [The Fire in the Pyramid of Cheops] deals with a main motif of alchemy from the Middle Ages to the present, namely the ennoblement, which is manifested in the ennoblement of man by freeing himself from base elements (Just like alchemy attempts to obtain gold from base metals). The novel, dated in 1928, treats this motif in an alchemical guise, with atomic energy becoming the equivalent of the alchemical philosopher's stone. Through thematic analysis of material and motif, the paper concludes that Dominik has succeeded in creating the motif of the ennoblement of man in an alchemically exciting way. This motif is condensed using the Pyramid of Cheops as a symbol of place and the alchemical number symbolism.
