Communication in Food Blogging: Analysis of Language in One of the Cooking Blogs

Abstract

The language of Italian kitchen has always been loved, imitated throughout the world, and has brought with it many italian words in the field of gastronomy.
This study aims to analyze the language used in cooking blogs. The thesis will be conducted through an analysis of the corpus of various recipes of the Italian blogger Benedetta Rossi. The texts will be analyzed from various aspects (spelling, lexical, and textual) in order to identify the characteristics that distinguish the language of the kitchen blogs. This analysis includes both the recipes and the comments of the blog’s followers.
Through the thesis, it is revealed that the language of this blogger is characterized by simplicity, the use of images and videos that present the result, and foreign words. On the other hand, the language of the blog’s followers is very vivacious: they use question marks and exclamation marks, emoticons, lack of punctuation, vowel lengthening, brevity, and many other features that make the language smooth.
