Abstract

AI has permeated many aspects of life, playing a leading role in the linguistic field. This paper discusses the use of AI in translation, particularly screen subtitling, a type of audiovisual translation that deals with multimedia. It combines several media simultaneously, including sound, image, and text (i.e., subtitles). On this basis, it has become easy to translate any text, video, or audio using AI-based translation tools, as machines can now handle and analyze these media without any human intervention. These tools and platforms are numerous and continuously evolving. This research employs a descriptive-analytical approach to examine samples of Chinese-Arabic translation for the Chinese series "Mr. Bad" on the IQIYI platform. The aim is to discuss the challenges of AI-based screen subtitling and its shortcomings, offering proposals to overcome these issues. This study focuses on both technical and linguistic areas of deficiency.
