Idiomatic expressions with reference to the human body Semantic-translatological approach

Each language has its own typical idiomatic expressions. By their nature, they can be incomprehensible and difficult to interpret; almost never have a literal translation. The meaning of these lexical units cannot be derived from the simple calculation of the meanings of the single words that compose them.
The main objective of this paper is to study idiomatic expressions with reference to the human body from the semantic point of view. Expressions under study are often associated with metaphors and metonymies that can be classified according to their “conceptual” nature. Furthermore satisfactory translation strategies are highlighted to convey the cultural peculiarity of the idiomatic expressions from Italian into Arabic.
From the compositional point of view, the idiomatic expressions are considered “arbitrary” and “irregular”, but adopting the cognitive approach, “regularity” can be identified. It is clear that the world view expressed in Italian idiomatic expressions with reference to the body is more or less different from the Arabic one. To convey the cultural connotations expressed in idiomatic expressions, translators can rarely maintain the same metaphor or metonymy and, therefore, adopt connotative equivalences used in the target language or simply express
